The Faculty trains specialists in train operation; handling operations; planning of railway and industrial-communication stations; service organization at the stations and in trains. The Faculty gives students not only economic, financial knowledge and knowledge of law but also gives opportunity to apply their knowledge to real situations, to develop their analytical skills and acquire professional acumen. It trains specialists in organization of transport international trade and economic bargains.

The goals of educational and scientific and technological training of transportation management are the following:
- Develop skills to apply the knowledge and the ability to understand in order to solve problems and show a professional approach with regard to the work developed, integrating scientific, technological and managerial knowledge and dealing with complex issues;
- Develop solutions under the scope of the conception of productive systems (products and services) and organizational structures, subject to technological, economic, social and environmental constraints;
- Develop skills for a professional participation in a wide variety of industrial organizations;
- Develop skills to incorporate cutting-edge technologies in the performance of their duties;
- Develop entrepreneurial skills allowing for the creation of technology-based businesses.

A Brief History and Characteristics of the Faculty
The faculty of “Railway Operation” was opened in 1950 in Rostov Institute of Railway Transport Engineers. In 1982 it was renamed into the faculty of “Railway Management and Operation”. 12 % of the faculty’ students graduated from the university with honors. Today about 900 students are being trained at the faculty.
Objects and spheres of professional work
Our graduates work at the state organizations and the enterprises on transportation of cargoes and passengers, the transport organizations and the enterprises of other forms of ownership, safety service at traffic, the forwarding enterprises and the organizations, facultys of transport and state transport inspection, marketing service and subdivisions on studying and service of the transport service market, regional systems of goods traffic, transportations of passengers, industrial and marketing systems, the organizations and the enterprises of information supply of industrial - technological systems.
Employment
Our graduates can fill strategic positions in industrial sphere notably at the level of general, commercial and project management, or in large economic groups and holdings with direct or indirect interests in the industrial area, i.e. consulting or financial companies It is also possible to integrate these professionals in State's Facultys involving the evaluation of industrial projects, management and restructuring of operations, economic and financial audits, impact and technological innovation evaluations and research and development strategy evaluations.
Great amount of our graduates work at the state organizations and the enterprises on transportation of cargoes and passengers, the transport organizations and the enterprises of other forms of ownership, safety service at traffic, the forwarding enterprises and the organizations, facultys of transport and state transport inspection, marketing service and subdivisions on studying and service of the transport service market, regional systems of goods traffic, transportations of passengers, industrial and marketing systems, the organizations and the enterprises of information supply of industrial - technological systems.
The field and spheres of professional work of the graduate include research, methods and the technologies directed to development and optimization of administrative decisions in logistics as well as to supply chain management of the enterprises of various branches of the economy, containing:
– the state, commercial and transport agencies;
– the forwarding and industrial - marketing enterprises;
– the enterprises specializing in cargoes and passengers transportation;
– the enterprises of a transport-terminal complex;
– the network corporations of different scales;
– the enterprises of the international barter maintenance and others.
The graduates can also work at the research-and-production associations, the scientific, design and project organizations, in the bodies of state government and social infrastructure of the national economy.
Material, technical and intellectual maintenance of the educational process:
Faculty has well equipped lecture-halls, computer and educational classes. The training complex “The Virtual Railway”, the educational and laboratory complexes – workplaces of “The Logistics Specialist”, “The Station Attendant”, “The Train Dispatcher”, the Automatic Management System “A Railway Station – a Seaport”, etc. are used in teaching disciplines of the specialty and specialization. The lecture-halls of “The Law”, equipped with the reference documents, the training-supervising software, informative and legal systems “Guarantor”, “the Adviser +”, the lecture-class “The Center of Computer Technologies”, and also computer classes with training program courses and the software for carrying out business games are used in teaching the humanitarian and economic disciplines.
The students master their practical skills during the training practice in summer after each year of education at the stations, in the railways branches and facultys, in the large enterprises of the region, including the enterprises of kinds of transport, in the subdivisions maintaining logistical, marketing and forwarding activity, the excursions in the large transport-logistical and terminal centers of the region are organized.
An additional information: The students of the specialty are actively involved in intra-university, city and regional events, they get a necessary experience of interpersonal professional dialogue on a different level, participate in a rich and various public, cultural and sports life of the university: parties of amateur performances, regional and All-Russia competitions, agitation trains, excursions within the framework of the activity of the military - historical reconstruction club, familiarizing trips to the Russian and foreign educational establishments, patronage of social objects (hospitals, orphanages, boarding schools, etc.).
